Tips For Purchasing Bedding And Sheets
By Brian Waspi
There are so many wonderful options with regard to purchasing bedding and sheets. No matter what your tastes may be with regard to these types of products or what your bedroom furnishing style may be, there is certain to be the perfect bedding and sheets items for you. The following will provide some tips to keep in mind when buying bedding and sheets.
Consider the Desired Pattern and Style
When shopping for bedding and sheets it is a good idea to determine what style and pattern you are looking for with regard to this type of purchase. Since there are so many different types available, having a set style in mind will help you to narrow down the options and find exactly what you are looking for. For example, if you like stripes or paisley patterns focus on those styles and shop for them exclusively.
Color of the Bedding and Sheets
You should also have a good idea of what color you want the bedding and sheets to be. Take a look at the dominant colors within your bedroom and try to choose a color of bedding and sheets which have that color within them. Doing this will help you to select bedding and sheets that will match the overall color tone of the room.
Bed in a Bag or Individual Items
Another tip for choosing the best type of bedding and sheet items relates to how these products are purchased. Bedding of this type can be purchased individually or as a bed in a bag ensemble. Bed in a bag products allow you to choose a specific style of bedding and sheets and then obtain the matching items for one set price. On the other hand, when you purchase these items individually you will have to pick out what bedding products you want and then pay for them individually. When buying a bed in a bag ensemble you can often get a really good price on these items and save yourself money as opposed to buying the individual items. In the alternative, when you purchase bedding and sheet products separately you can pick and choose while only having to purchase the items you will truly use.
Thread Count
Another factor to keep in mind when buying bedding and sheets is the thread count of the items. Thread count will determine how soft the product is and often how comfortable it will be on a daily basis. Some individuals do not consider the thread count when buying bedding and sheets as they are interested in getting a better price and not as concerned with the overall softness of the product. On the other hand, for those who are interested in the overall softness of the product, taking note of the thread count and buying these items with this feature in mind will help you to choose the best make of bedding and sheets for your use. Keep in mind that the higher the thread count, the softer and more expensive the product often will be.
Price of the Bedding and Sheets
Those who are shopping for bedding and sheets may also be concerned with the price of these items. For those who find price to be a concern, there are a few tips to keep in mind in order to get the best deal. First, try shopping for these items online as there are often really good web-only deals which you can find with a little research. Secondly, if you prefer to buy these items in-store, then visit various linen stores and department stores to see which items are on sale. Also, purchasing lower thread count, as mentioned above, will save money if extreme softness is not a requirement. Lastly, if you find that you are going to need numerous pieces of bedding and sheets, then buying a bed in a bag might be the best option.

Shop For Bed Sheets With Confidence
By Katie Curtis
Shopping for bed sheets has become a difficult prospect for many of us. There are just so many choices to make regarding materials, thread counts, and more. Not long ago, I was having tea with a friend and we were discussing this shopping dilemma. She shared a number of tips and ideas with me, and I am now going to share them with you. Listen up!
The first thing you must know is what size of sheet you are shopping for. This may sound silly, but I have had to return my new sheets to the store on a few different occasions. If only I had thought to double-check the size of each bed before I went shopping!
Experts recommend that you measure the length, width, and height of your mattress before you shop. This may sound extreme, but with so many mattress types on the market it may not be a bad idea. I had to return the last set of sheets I bought because they didn’t fit the new pillow-top mattress I had purchased the week prior.
The next thing to consider is what feel you would like your sheets to have. Do you like smooth, pressed cotton? Do you prefer the slippery feeling of silk or satin? Or do you prefer the warmth and comfort of flannel sheets? I usually buy simple cotton sheets for our family beds. They are easy to clean and maintain, and I can usually pick them up at a very fair price. And I never buy sheets with a thread count of less than 280.
The last thing you might want to consider is the type of laundering your sheets will need. Last year, I bought a set of sheets that I felt were perfect. They fit well, and they were wonderful to the touch. The problem was that they needed to be dry cleaned, and by the time I discovered this it was too late. I put them through the washer and dryer and when I took them out they looked like they would barely fit a single bed, much less my massive queen size mattress!
These are just a few points to consider when purchasing new bedding. The other things, I feel, are a matter of taste. I have a preference for solid colored bedding, but there are many wonderful patterned sheets out there. Whatever you preferences may be, please keep these ideas in mind. Now get out there and shop, shop, shop!

Silk vs. Satin Sheets
By Mark Gesture
When looking at what to cover your bed with, you are left with several options. Two of these options are Silk bedding and Satin bedding. Both hold very similar appearances, however, each one is unique in its own way.
Both of these fabrics produce a shiny effect from the materials they are woven on. However, satin is generally only shiny on one side. This is due to the way it is woven. Materials are woven together from unnatural materials, making it a synthetic cloth. Silk is pulled from the cocoon of a specific type of mulberry silkworm cocoon. These cocoons are unraveled in one very long strand and then woven together to make very beautiful fabric.
An advantage silk has to its similar partner, satin, is that it is generally much stronger. This advantage comes from the fact that it is woven from longer strands of “thread.” A longer thread means that its final product in fabric form will be able to hold itself through much more wear and tear. Satin is created from multiple types of fabric threads. These can include silk itself, cotton, polyester and other similar fabrics.
Satin is considered a much better choice for someone to use as a pillow case. This is because silk is a poor conductor of electricity. This means that it will produce a high volume of static electricity. Satin, however, is made from several different materials. Many of the materials in the final product are used to help reduce that static electricity produced by silk.
For those that use silk, you can expect a much more natural feel. Silk does not need to be woven in any specific way to create a shiny appearance. It, on its own, is naturally shiny. Silk creates this gloss by using a special kind of weave using a high number of “floats.” A higher float count will produce better shine, but a weaker product and a much less satisfying feel. Those who used silk sheets have left testimonials saying that after comparing the two, satin and silk, silk felt like it glided over their hand while satin crumpled around it.
Satin on many hands is considered a much more reasonable fabric to work with as bedding. Silk is a very difficult product to clean. Unless cleaned by a professional, it could end up very damaged or unusable. If silk is stretched any amount, it is not elastic and will stay the length it has been stretched. With satin, it can be made with threads that have a higher elastic strength, allowing you to wrap it around your bed.
The main factor for anyone arguing to buy these two fabrics is price. Because the process of making a silk sheet is a much more time consuming and strenuous process, silk sheets are much more expensive. Satin sheets, on the other hand will range on the quality of the threads used to make it. They start out at very manageable prices, but can stretch to prices as high as that of silks.
