Footstools Fashion
By Rachel Hutchinson
The humble footstool was the comfort of many individuals while sat in their large padded chair by the fireplace for many years. As a functional item it really did serve us very well and we could relax with our feet up at the end of a hard working day. Now, the fashionable footstool has emerged and turned those lazy evenings of comfort into relaxation in style. Now we can relax at home in a variety of different ways while proudly displaying our footstools as a complimentary room accessory to our guests.
You can still utilise the benefits of having a small and low down footstool that can be easily tucked away to make more room when you’re feeling more energetic but the range of footstools has increased dramatically to a whole new level.
Firstly, you can forget all about the conventional rectangular shape of a footstool. Although these are still available there is a wealth of alternative shapes to suit everyone’s needs and requirements. You can rest your feet on a rounded square “Pouffe” that doubles up as an emergency seat for kids or cats thanks to its unrivalled comfort and soft all over padding. In fact these pouffes (or cubes) are actually popular in many shoe stores who supply them as a comfy seating alternative. These pouffe footstools can also be provided in a variety of colours and materials. The classic choice is for leather or imitation leather cubes in natural colours such as dark brown, yellow ochre, tan, beige and sometimes red. You can also get luxury cubes now with elaborate floral patterns in rich reds, purples and pinks, or modern spotted white pouffes. In addition to this you can also get these earthy colours in suede fabrics if you prefer and you can even have storage cube instead so you when you aren’t resting your feet or your behind on the cube you can store games, DVD’s or towels in it. This provides not only style and comfort but also additional storage!
If square isn’t your thing you can go for a round cylindrical footstool called a drum stool. This is naturally a higher option that the conventional cube or rectangular varieties and also doubles up as spare seating. Perfect for a house that loves curves and not angles.
If you are the kind of person who likes the best of both worlds, a stylish and handy coffee table and a place to rest your feet, you can now get fabric bench stools. These footstools are designed to allow you to rest your cup and saucer and the morning newspaper on with their large flat surface, whilst still being a comfortable foot resting location. If you are tired of being yelled at for having your feet on the table try out this table - footstool combination. You can also get a medium sized storage ottoman so you can rest your feet up with your friend on the sofa and store whatever you like without any extra furniture cupboards.

Ottoman – Enjoy And Relax In The Luxurious Couch
By Sharon Albright
An Ottoman is a piece of furniture that is usually padded, upholstered seat without arms and often used as a stool or footrest. It derives its name from the ancient discovery of Ottoman Turks. These Turks were artistic people who showed much interest in fields of calligraphy, poetry and painting. With their interest in art flourishing, the Ottoman Turks also started inventing plush furniture that would add elegance and style to everyday living.
An ottoman is also known as a hassock or pouffe. In the United Kingdom, the ottomans have a plush hollow that can also be used as a blanket box to store bedding accessories. According to the Encyclopedia of Furniture by Joseph Aronson, Ottoman is defined as an “upholstered seat or bench having neither backs nor arms, so named after the Turkish influence in the early 18th Century…” So an Ottoman, reminiscent of ancient splendor, can add a high degree of grace, charm and décor to your drab room.
Decorate your home with ottoman
If you can decorate your home with an ottoman, it will give a traditional aura to the home décor. Extending from being a simple sofa to a luxurious footstool, the ottoman offers you to sit and relax in its luxuriousness. However, if you want to add modern trends to the traditional home décor, then furnish the ottoman with plush cushions and soft pillow settings.
Another way to decorate the ottoman is covering it with slipcovers. It is a good way to breathe new life and style to the old furniture. You can simply change the ragged look with the slipcovers ranging in a variety of colors. Some great benefits associated with slipcovers are having the ability to protect the furniture from unplanned accidents or spills. The slipcovers also offer you to protect your existing furniture without dealing with the expense of having to re-upholster your furniture again and again.
You can simply try a ribbed skirt or a patterned cloth to add some zest to your old ottoman or simply get a piece of plain old cloth to impart a little extra protection to your footrest.
Advantages of using ottoman
Sometimes the ottomans are made of such material that they have the prints ingrained in them. Choices of prints range from floral designs to country checks, to contemporary prints or simple stripes. They are also sometimes made of hardwearing but fascinating fabric that ranges from being denim, chenille, and suede to faux leather.
There are various advantages of using ottoman as your furniture:
- They are durable and flexible
- Machine washable
- Removable slip cover
- Adds luxury and elegance
- Cheap prices
- Enhances the traditional décor of your rooms
Are you interested to give a theatrical look to your home within affordable budget rates? Then decorate it with ottomans instead of loveseats, chairs and sofas. They will give a fresh lease of life to the otherwise drab décor in your room.
