Nursery Design Ideas - An Outer Space Theme

When designing a nursery you are limited only by your imagination! If you can think it, then you can either buy the product or make your own. For an outer space theme you can keep it simple and just put some glow in the dark stickers up on the walls or ceiling or you could go with a Buzz Lightyear theme (from Toy Story), but buying a whole room full of licensed products can be expensive. An alternative is to custom create your design using a variety of ideas and sources.

Blackout curtains are a necessity for the nursery these days if you want baby to sleep well during the day and early in the summer evenings. These can be easily decorated with stars - whether you use stickers or opt to sew on material stars is up to you. When thinking about a colour scheme you could just paint the walls neutral and accessorise with space themed products so that the theme can be changed easily in the future if necessary. Space themed products are varied and widely available especially if you look on the Internet. There are rugs, lampshades, curtains, duvets, blankets, shelves, wall hangings and pictures all with rockets, astronauts or aliens all over them. If you cannot find them to buy then make your own.

Nightlights come in all shapes, colours and sizes so you can easily find one to complement your space theme. You will also find a huge variety of mobiles on the market so you will certainly be able to buy ones that represent the solar system so you could hang one of those from the ceiling. A large round paper lampshade with a coloured light bulb makes an awesome moon or planet as a room centrepiece. You can even get wallpaper that comes as a mural so you could make one whole wall look like outer space or the surface of the moon! The finishing touch...a painted glow in the dark star ceiling made to look like a night sky complete with constellations and the Milky Way! Whatever you decide to do your baby will love it and grow up with a fantastic space themed bedroom.
