Standard bed sizes are twin, full (also called double), queen, and king. Custom-made mattresses can be any size.
* Do I need special bed sheets to fit my pillow top mattress?
Yes, you will require special sheets, especially if you are buying a thick mattress with a thick pillow top, because the standard size sheets will be too small.
* What is the difference between a bedspread and a comforter?
The difference between a bedspread and a comforter is that a bedspread is used to cover your pillows and is usually inserted on the sides of the bed while a comforter is a bed cover which is quilted and is reversible.
* What is a duvet cover and what are its advantages?
A duvet cover is the cover that is placed over the comforter. One advantage of duvet covers is that they are made of strong and comfortable material – usually cotton, satin or silk. Another advantage is that they are changeable and reversible.
* Do I need a top sheet if I use a duvet cover?
If you are using a duvet cover, you will not need a top sheet. You will only mess up your bed if you do so. The duvet cover itself will serve the same function as a top sheet.
* Where does the down in my comforter come from?
The down in comforters is usually a waste product that came from ducks and geese, but the most common source of down comes from the white goose. However "down" can also come from gray geese, gray ducks, or white ducks.
In some countries you can still get comforters made with high-quality goose down and no waste products, but of course they are fairly expensive.
* What is the best way to clean a comforter?
The best way to clean a comforter is to take it to a dry cleaners. Make sure to select an dry cleaner who is experienced with down and feather products.
* Can I be allergic to feather bedding?
No, because the feathers comprising the bedding are made of the same kind of matter as human hair, which is entirely static. The only explanation for a possible allergic reaction would be dirt and dust accumulated by the bedding for over a long period of time.
* How often should I wash my bedding?
Dust mites and other allergens prefer to stay on dirty bedding. According to bedding manufacturers, it is advisable that you wash your bedding, mattress pad, and blankets in hot water weekly or at least every two weeks. Hot water is necessary to kill the germs and unnecessary organisms that might live on them.
